Your baby is undergoing huge changes and shaking off the last of those ‘newborn features’. There’s still time to get those cute, natural baby shots that we are famous for, but now you can also get a lot more expression and interaction.
Yes, when photographing babies who are 3-6 months old, best to keep that cloth handy as by now they are beginning to develop muscles for speech (and a tendency to blow bubbles). They get a lot louder and more expressive.
Don’t expect them to recite their favourite song just yet, but do sing to them and give them lots of interaction and talk to them. Their first words are a little way off, but they are paying very close attention to everything you are doing and saying and they are constantly learning.
3-6 months old is a beautiful age to capture as they have made some huge leaps in this time. They are occupying themselves a little longer with toys and textures and watch you from a distance or follow you around the room with their eyes, which is an excellent chance to play ‘Peek-a-boo’!
Peek-a-boo pro-tip:
Give them a second to recognise you before you disappear again for maximum smiles!
As baby now firmly knows who their ‘regular crowd’ are, they might become a little shy when meeting strangers, so don’t expect too much at the beginning of your session as they need time to warm up.
Don’t worry though, our photographers are great at building fast rapport with your kids.

Shoot tip:
You’ll have a tough time keeping their hands out of their mouth, so either embrace it as part of their milestone, or have someone on-hand to help keep the hands under control.
As they become more interactive, we like to play and laugh with your baby to get those natural and fun moments as they happen. Giving baby short bursts of fun and sensory play, we keep the shoot age appropriate - big eyes, cheeky expressions and of course, beautifully crafted images that look amazing on your wall.
Baby is still fragile and precious, but can now withstand supervised cuddles from their siblings and kisses from their fur-brothers and sisters. You can now hold baby differently in your family portraits and (gently) get a little bit more playful with them too!
