Professional newborn and family photography in Sydney can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.
The difference usually comes down to the photographer’s experience, what the initial package includes, how many finished photographs you receive and whether you choose digital images, an album or artwork for your home.

Why do family photography prices vary?
The photographer’s experience.
Working with newborn babies, toddlers and larger families requires more than knowing how to operate a camera.
An experienced family photographer knows how to work safely around newborns, help reluctant children relax, organise different family combinations and recognise when to provide direction or step back.
Grain & Weave has photographed families in their Sydney homes since 2016. Our photographers regularly work with maternity sessions, newborn babies, older babies, toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, great-grandparents, pets and extended families of up to 25 people.
What is included in the starting price?
Some photographers charge a sitting fee that covers the photography session but does not include any finished photographs. Digital images, professional retouching and printed products may then be purchased separately.

What happens after the photography session?
The photography itself is only one part of the finished result.
After your session, our Sydney team carefully prepares and retouches your collection. You will receive a private preview before meeting online with one of our experienced consultants.

The consultation is included in your package and usually takes up to 60 minutes.
Our role is to give you the information and professional guidance needed to make a confident decision. You remain in control of what you choose.
The best result comes from working in partnership. You know your family, your home and what matters most to you. We bring the photography experience and product knowledge needed to preserve it properly.
How many photographs will we see?
Most Grain & Weave sessions produce a carefully edited collection of around 25 finished photographs, although the exact number depends on the type of session, the number of people involved and what unfolds naturally on the day.
We remove test photographs, blinks and unnecessary duplicates before presenting the finished collection.
Your starting package includes five images. You can keep those five or choose to upgrade after seeing the photographs.
What type of digital images are included?
Our standard photography packages include professionally edited Everyday Digital images.
Everyday Digital files are supplied as sRGB JPGs at 2400 pixels on the longest side. They are designed for sharing, devices, keepsakes and standard family prints.
For families who want greater flexibility for large printing and long-term preservation, we also offer Full-Size Archive files at 9000 pixels on the longest side.
Albums, Full-Size Archive files and handmade wall art are optional. You can ask for the complete price list at any time.

Is in-home photography more expensive?
Not necessarily.
With Grain & Weave, travel within our usual Sydney service area and the professional equipment needed for the session are included in your package.
There is no need to hire a studio, travel across Sydney with a newborn or hope that the weather cooperates. We bring the photography experience to you.
Your home does not need to be large, perfectly styled or filled with natural light. We regularly photograph families in apartments, rentals, terraces, townhouses and busy family homes.
Our photographers bring compact professional lighting and can usually work in a small part of a bedroom, lounge room or hallway.
Your home is the place where your family already feels comfortable. That makes it easier for babies to settle, children to relax, pets to be included and grandparents to take part.
Can grandparents, pets and extended family be included?
Yes.
Parents, siblings, grandparents, great-grandparents and pets are all welcome.
We usually create a varied collection that includes the whole family, smaller combinations, individual children and the relationships that matter most to you.
For larger extended-family sessions, let us know how many people will be involved when you enquire. We have photographed groups of up to 25 people and can help plan the space and family combinations beforehand.
Is my baby too old for newborn photography?
Almost certainly not.
We photograph newborn babies from birth to six weeks, but beautiful baby photography continues well beyond the traditional newborn stage.
Younger newborns may sleep more, while older babies are often more alert and expressive. There is no single perfect age for meaningful photographs.
Tell us how old your baby is when you enquire and we will tailor the session to their stage.
How can I compare family photography packages properly?

Check whether the advertised price includes finished photographs or only the photography session.
A very low session fee may still lead to a larger final cost if all images and products must be purchased separately.

Yes. You can keep the package you originally purchased and receive the photographs included in it.
Many families decide to add photographs, upgrade their digital collection or create an album or piece of wall art after seeing the finished images. Those choices remain optional.

Whatever you choose, we will help you get the very best outcome for your family now, without short-changing your future self.
Do you accept last-minute enquiries?
Yes. Although popular dates can book several weeks ahead, illness and changing family circumstances regularly create last-minute openings.
If your baby has already arrived or you suddenly have the family together, it is always worth asking. Send us your suburb, preferred timing and the ages of everyone involved, and our office team will check the closest available dates.
